4 Ways To Stay Safe As You Break A Sweat During Phase 2

When circuit breaker was first implemented, many tied their running shoes and went on a run around their neighbourhood in hopes to keep physically and mentally fit.

Now with Phase 2, you have much more options to stay healthy. Gyms, yoga studios and other sports facilities will be opening their doors to welcome those who yearn to break a sweat.

With that said, you will still need to observe the safety regulations that have been implemented by the government, including the mandatory wearing of masks – except when you’re exercising – and practising social distancing.

Apart from the fundamentals, surely there are other safety practises you’d want to employ to safeguard your health.

If you’re not quite sure, don’t worry, we’ve got your back.

1. Choosing a well-ventilated facility

If you preferred to exercise indoors, ensure that you choose one that is spacious.

In accordance with governmental regulations, all public spaces and establishments are limited to allow one person per 10sq m. This means no facilities should admit more than 50 people unless approval is given.

Opting for a spacious facility will allow you to exercise safe distancing with ease.

It’s best to opt for a facility that is also well-ventilated and the air is not recirculated, lest you breathe in pathogens and germs. If the air is recirculated, ensure that the facility has HEPA filtration to filter them out.

2. Wipe down your equipment before and after use

COVID19 is spread from person to person via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person talked, sneezed or coughed.

These droplets can easily land on the sports equipment and whilst there aren’t any concrete answers as of yet, it is believed that the virus can survive on surfaces anywhere from 2 hours to 9 whole days.

Avoid coming in contact with the nasty droplets by wiping the equipment down with disinfectant wipes before and after use.

You can also opt for workout gloves if you don’t wish to deal with the cumbersome process.

3. Avoid having a buddy spot when weight training

If you’re going to a gym to build your muscles with weight training, avoid having a buddy to spot for you.

Having somebody directly above you – and within a metre distance at that – is not encouraged. That distance alone is enough to transmit the virus.

If you need to have one, make sure that your spotter wears a mask and isn’t standing too close as you lift the weights.

4. Space out

Regardless of the intensity of your workout, whether it’d be spin cycling or yoga, you will need to minimise any form of contact as much as possible.

This is especially so if you’re attending a class of some sort. A group of people exercising in a confined space is the ideal situation for the proliferation of the virus.

To avoid being exposed to the virus, opt for classes that have a maximum of 5 attendees and keep a distance of at least 2 metres from other students at all times.

Sports facilities aren’t the only ones that are opening during phase 2 of the circuit breaker.

Beauty salons are too, including Datsumo Labo! We are still offering the same body hair removal services, including Brazilian laser hair removal and IPL treatments, but our operations have included safety measures into the mix.

To better manage the number of people going in and out of our outlets, we will need customers to book an appointment with us via our call centre. Customers who have a high body temperature will also not be allowed to enter our premises.

Whilst we hope to assist you in achieving silky smooth skin, we are determined to do it in a safe manner. The fight has yet to end, so let’s persevere.
