As we watch the COVID19 cases rise and fall in our country and in others, we’ve witnessed the significant boost in cleaning and hygiene standards. Such practices set the foundation which will help curtail the spread of the coronaviruses.

So, skipping our usual painless hair removal articles – this time, we’ll be keeping you in the loop by diving into detail what are some of the safety measures you can take to keep yourself and those around you safe.

Be socially responsible

The hysteria and anxiety behind the spread of coronavirus are warranted, seeing as how easily it disrupts the lives of everyday individuals and society as a whole.

Its contagion rate makes it harder to reign in the number of infected cases. To illustrate its high contact rate, we can refer to the metric (R0) that measures the average number of people who will get infected once they come in contact with a sick individual.

The R0 of coronavirus hovers around 2.25, making it more contagious than H1N1 and Ebola, but less contagious than SARS and measles. Thus, social responsibility is not to be taken lightly. This includes maintaining a good distance (2m) between yourself and the people around you.

Always wear a mask when you head out or better yet, simply stay at home if you have the means to. Engage in deliveries if you have the financial means and connect with your loved ones virtually.

These measures will effectively reduce the contact rate and thus, flattening the curve in a shorter period of time is feasible.

Practising good hygiene

The spread of the coronavirus happens mainly via water droplets, such as saliva or mucus.

Whilst there are no data currently available on the virus’s survival rate on surfaces, the need to maintain and practise good hygiene still stands.

Remember to wash your hands regularly with soap and avoid touching your face unless your hands are clean. Regular clean and disinfect your home, especially areas that are frequently touched. Ensure that the disinfectant you use is non-toxic, especially if you have kids in your home.

Apart from the regular alcohol disinfectants, you may want to consider natural disinfectants such as vinegar, lemon juice or tea tree oil. They are not only safe, but they are also a cheaper alternative to their alcohol counterparts.

Manage your health

Last but not least, do everything you can to maintain good health! Those who have weak immunity or have a predisposed ailment are more susceptible to contract the disease, which further emphasises the need for good health.

Start with including healthy meals into your diet, regular exercise and clocking in at least 8 hours of sleep.

Should you experience any flu-like symptoms such as cough, runny nose, sore throat and fever, head down to your nearest clinic and see a doctor.

Conclusion

These simple yet effective steps are what sets the foundation to relief and curb the spread of the coronavirus. You may want to take it a step further by donating to causes that help support the fight, be it to support organisations for the migrant workers or frontliners. A little help can go a long way.
