D.I.Y. Hair Removal: What Works And What’s Even Better

Everyone in the world has hair somewhere on their body, and if you have ever tried a method other than shaving, tweezing and creams for body hair removal – know that you aren’t alone.

There are countless of ways that you can go about your hair-free journey, and while some are more adventurous than the rest – there is actually a far more effective solution that work wonders for both your skin, and confidence!

Before we let you in on the not-so-secret secret, let’s first dive right into some of the most common D.I.Y. ways that people have tried to remove the fuzz on their body.

FAIR WARNING: it can get pretty painful.

Natural Home Remedies: Turmeric + Papaya

Do a quick search on Google and you should be able to find a slew of natural home remedies that you can make simply by throwing together a list of ingredients from your kitchen.

One of the most popular methods include turmeric and papaya, which both provide many skin-loving benefits to the skin. Turmeric is a yellow spice that has been used by Indian women for centuries as a multi-purpose D.I.Y. beauty ingredient. Papaya on the other hand works its magic through a special enzyme known as papain, which helps to weaken the hair follicles and prevent re-growth.

The caveat though, is this: such treatments often require multiple treatments (as many as 2 – 3 times a week!), which often turns out to be more of a hassle for the ladies looking for fuss-free maintenance, or for those last-minute events.

In addition, such remedies are often effective for facial hair, but not so much the rest of the body. Similar to a hair depilatory cream, you apply the paste on your skin and leave it on for around 15 – 20 minutes. While they do work to a certain extent, the results are often unpredictable and may not work well for everyone.

Duct Tape

Not to be confused with waxing, using duct tape to remove hair is far more abrasive, painful, and can lead to nasty ingrown hairs that are even harder to remove than the original follicle itself!

This method is also very unreliable, and unless you got a trusty friend, sibling or colleague to help you out (which either way is a bad idea) – we highly do not recommend this extremely ouch solution.

Certain areas on the body are extremely sensitive, especially the face and bikini area – and the risks of injuring yourself during the process is extremely high and simply not worth it.

Yes, while it might be a much cheaper solution that going for an actual wax – there are definitely far better ways to go hair-free.

If you don’t believe us, you can watch our recent video with Mothership as our brand ambassador, Xiaxue tries to use duct tape to remove Xing Qi’s leg hair in an attempt to get him ready for their company retreat.

Clearly, duct tape should remain as a useful tool, prank or forfeit – that’s about it.

SHR is the Better, More Lasting Solution

The most effective, semi-permanent hair removal method to date is Super Hair Removal (SHR), which is a machine that is able to treat all skin types and conditions!

Due to its versatility, and the ability to cover multiple areas of the body in a short amount of time – it’s no wonder that many of our patients at Datsumo Labo swear by our treatment!

Knowing about the hair growth cycle is key to getting rid of your hair at optimum times. Different areas have different hair growth cycles, and it is important to get rid of them at the active growing stage in order to see less regrowth in the future. This is why seeking the help of a well-trained specialist with experience will always trump at-home treatments.

At Datsumo, we also provide facial hair removal and brazilian hair removal – using our Princess Gel™ to help you achieve fair, moisturized and hair-free skin that feels just like a pamper session. Consult us today for your FREE consultation and never go back to D.I.Y. treatments ever again!

Thank you Mothership once again for the awesome video, and both Xiaxue and Xing Qi for being such great sports!
